Birth Control Pill: Oral Contraceptive

There are many different brands of the birth control pill (What are birth control pills?). Some come in packs of 21 or 28 pills. One  birth control pill is taken orally (swallowed) a day. The first 21 pills have to work a combination of estrogen and progesterone synthesis that prevent fertilization. The last seven tablets in a package of 28 days are free of hormones called spacer  birth control pill. The stop ovulation hormones (the process of the ovaries from releasing eggs) and thicken the cervical mucus to prevent sperm from reaching the uterus. The  birth control pill is 92 to 99.7% effective as birth control, but do not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including HIV / AIDS.

If the  birth control pill began six days of abortion or the beginning of a period, effective immediately. If the  birth control pill is initiated at other times, it is effective after one month. Condoms can also be used to reduce the risk of pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.

Birth control pill: There are several ways to start taking the  birth control pill. A common method is the first day of the period or the first day to start after an abortion. Some women prefer the first Sunday after the occurrence of these events to begin by birth control pill.

Training: Take one tablet a day until you finish a whole packet. Try to associate the  birth control pill with some regular activity to do at the same time each day as a meal or brushing teeth. If you have a package of 28 days, start a new pack immediately after finishing the previous one. If you have a package of 21 days, take one  birth control pill every day for 21 days, no  birth control pill for seven days, then start the new pack immediately.

The effectiveness of the  birth control pill is reduced when taken with certain medications, including antibiotics, anticonvulsants, tuberculosis, and drugs against migraine. If you are taking medication, talk to your doctor. When taking medications that can interfere with the  birth control pill, consider using a method of contraception such as condoms and spermicides. Like all medicines, it is useful to inform all your medical provider if you are using a hormonal contraceptive for managing interactions with other drugs.

You can prevent pregnancy after unprotected intercourse with an IUD inserted in a week after unprotected sex or  birth control pill (the pill). The pills work best in the first 24 to 48 hours, but may work for a few days. You can get a Plan B brand at your local pharmacy or Cedar River Clinics in Seattle or Tacoma.
