Birth control pill (oral contraceptives, as well as "the pill") are a type of female hormonal contraception, and are very effective in preventing pregnancy. The pill are small pills that you can take all day. Most  birth control pill contain two types of synthetic (artificial) of female hormones, estrogen and progestin. They are similar to estrogen and progesterone, usually by the ovaries. These  birth control pill are called combined oral contraceptives "and there are many different ways (What are birth control pills?).

The hormones prevent pregnancy by taking  birth control pill in suppressing her pituitary gland, which stops the development and release of the egg in the ovary (ovulation). Progestin also prevents the sperm to the egg and changes the uterine lining.

Another type of  birth control pill contains only one hormone (progestin) and is called both "progestin-only  birth control pill," or "mini  pill". It works by suppressing ovulation and helps prevent the male sperm reaching the egg.

The combined  birth control pill containing estrogen and progestin slightly more effective than progestin-only pills. However, some women can not estrogen, so it's best for them to take progestin-only p birth control pill.

You should also backup contraception, like condoms, if you have diarrhea or vomiting, or taking medication that could alter the effectiveness of the  birth control pill. If you take the  birth control pill at the same time each day (perfect use) is greater than 99% effective. This means that if 100 women taking the combined  birth control pill, every day, less than 1 woman will become pregnant in one year.

While it is clear that the  birth control pill is more effective against pregnancy when taken at the same time each day to be a perfect application for both teens and adults can be difficult. Therefore, it is often regarded as the efficiency is 92%. This means that if 100 women use the  birth control pill, but do not take it to perfection, will be 8 or more women to become pregnant in one year.
